Phonology: What Do
You Need to Know?
In acquiring English, children will need to learn the sounds
of the language. A lot of what they
learn about pronunciation will be acquired through listening to the speech of
native English speakers. However, some
of the sounds in English may be quite different from the sounds in their first
language. Therefore, some explicit
instruction in pronunciation will be necessary.
There are a lot of terms to describe sounds and what goes on physically
(i.e., in your mouth, throat, and lungs) when making those sounds, but here are
a few key things to remember.
